When I first began to really research minimalism, I fell in love with creating a diet that was centered around minimal, healthy, and simple meals. Replacing extremely processed products with homemade ones has been one of the biggest steps in applying minimalism to my everyday eating.
Homemade applesauce is just the start!
I absolutely love fresh fruit, but sometimes its fun to switch things up and have some applesauce instead. Sadly, most store bought applesauces have a ton of unnecessary ingredients in the mix, like unwanted sugars and exposure to various nuts or other allergies.
Determined to make my own, I set out doing some research (via Pinterest, of course!) and found that the majority of homemade applesauces are incredibly easy! But some have, again, a lot of extra stuff in the mix.
I also have started reusing glass jars to store various things, one such being applesauce. These 20 oz peach jars are perfect for this batch of applesauce!
So here is my super simple & easy applesauce!
Minimal Applesauce
Cook time: 40-45 minutes
Ingredients:
- 4 small organic fuji apples, washed & scrubbed
- 1 cup of water
- cinnamon
Instructions:
1. Slice apples into wedges (you should have 6-8 wedges per apple).
2. Place apples, water, and cinnamon into a medium sized sauce pan.
3. Bring ingredients to a boil. Once boiling, cover the pot and lower to a simmer for 35 minutes.
4. Remove pot from stove and place the boiled apple mixture into a food processor.
5. Pulse only until the apples are mixed.*
6. Store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
*NOTE: Over mixing the blend will cause your applesauce to become runny. Please don't do that.
